Always Be Suspicious Of People Selling MREs

If you’re anything like me, you enjoy having MREs for your various outdoor excursions. It’s a lot easier than trying to plan meals out individually. Knowing that I’ve got a full meal ready to eat, and it’s going to be able to stand up to whatever the great outdoors can bring, lets me go out with confidence.

However, there’s always the question of civilian or military MREs. Many people think military MREs are going to be better by default. Honestly, that’s rarely the case. You should always be suspicious of an MRE seller and scrutinize the products before you pay any money.

This is because military MREs are never sold directly to retail (and if you find someone claiming to be selling them that way, you know they’re lying). That means any military MRE you buy is either left over from what a soldier was requisitioned, or purchased from the on-base store. Either way that MRE could have been sitting out, exposed to the elements for who knows how long.

MREs are designed to hold up to intense situations, but that doesn’t mean they won’t degrade. So if you’re buying military MREs from a seller, make sure you check where they got them from.
